Overview

Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life threatening allergic reaction that can develop within minutes. Fast, confident first aid makes all the difference.

This nationally accredited course gives you the skills and knowledge to recognise the signs of anaphylaxis and respond with first aid treatment, including the correct use of an adrenaline autoinjector in line with a casualty's ASCIA action plan.

It's ideal for workplaces, schools and early childhood services, sporting clubs and community groups. Anaphylaxis training can also be combined with our asthma course in a single session, just ask when booking.

Course Outline

This nationally accredited course (22578VIC – Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis) covers the skills and knowledge needed to recognise and respond to anaphylaxis with confidence. The training is practical, hands-on and focused on real-world application.

  1. Understanding Anaphylaxis

    Learn what anaphylaxis is, common allergens and triggers, and the risk factors that can lead to a severe allergic reaction.

  2. Recognising Signs and Symptoms

    Identify the signs of mild to moderate allergic reactions and recognise when a reaction is becoming anaphylaxis.

  3. Anaphylaxis First Aid

    Respond to anaphylaxis in line with a casualty’s ASCIA action plan, including positioning the casualty and calling for help.

  4. Adrenaline Autoinjectors

    Use adrenaline autoinjectors correctly and safely, including storage, expiry checks and single person use.

  5. Legal and Reporting Requirements

    Know your rights and responsibilities when providing anaphylaxis first aid, including duty of care, consent and reporting requirements.

  6. Allergy Risk Management

    Reduce allergy risks and prepare for emergencies in workplaces, schools, early childhood services and community groups.

This course is delivered in a blended format, combining pre-course online learning with a face-to-face session.

Pre-course online learning: 2 hours, completed in your own time before class.

In class: 2 hours of practical, face-to-face training.

Anaphylaxis training can also be delivered as a combined session with 22702VIC Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies (3 hours pre-course learning and 3.5 hours in class). Ask us when booking.

We run courses at multiple locations including Craigieburn, Kalkallo, Mickleham, Kilmore, Clayton and Mount Waverley, plus onsite training anywhere across Melbourne. Choose your preferred location when booking, or contact us to arrange onsite training for your workplace.

Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

This course includes both a theory and practical component. You’ll learn by doing—working through engaging, real-world scenarios guided by qualified paramedics. To successfully complete the course, learners must:

  • Complete the pre-course online learning
  • Participate in all practical training
  • Pass a short theory assessment
  • Demonstrate anaphylaxis first aid, including correct use of an adrenaline autoinjector trainer device

Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is generally accepted as current for 3 years. We recommend renewing this course every 3 years to keep your skills and knowledge up to date.

Certificates are issued by ABC First Aid RTO 3399, subject to successful completion of all course requirements and following internal processing.
